Social Workers in Schools (SWIS) project

Posted on: Dec 8

Dear Parents/Carers

We are delighted to inform you that Northolt High School has been selected to take part in a pilot project, funded by the Department for Education, to place a Social Worker in a number of local schools. Our Social Worker, Janine James, will be based in school and we are very pleased to welcome her to the team.

Janine will work with school staff to promote and support social and emotional wellbeing for students and families. She will work with our established safeguarding and pastoral teams and other school staff to help us provide the best support possible and to help all of our students to keep themselves physically and emotionally safe. She will work with groups of students as well as individuals and will also be around for informal chats

Janine is also looking forward to working with families and we look forward to bringing you details of events in the New Year. Janine will also provide individual support to families.

If your child or family is offered support you will be contacted directly by Janine. If you would like to talk about what support might be useful for you or just to have a chat with Janine, then do get in touch.

The project runs until July 2021 and is being monitored by the University of Cardiff. If positive outcomes are identified, it is possible that the Department for Education will fund a Social worker position for schools across England.

As part of their research, the University of Cardiff may want to speak with students and families engaged in some of the Social Worker’s activities. You may be asked if you would like to participate in giving your views. The school and Ealing Children’s social care will ensure you are notified well in advance.

More details about the project can be found on Ealing Grid for Learning. If you have any questions or would like to have a chat with Janine, please contact her or our Designated Safeguarding Lead, Ms Marsh, at school.

Yours faithfully
